Why I Chose My Major

Hi all! I’m coming at you this Tuesday morning with something a little different!  I consider my blog to be mainly a fashion-inspired blog. With that being said, I am a college student and love to include my life-happenings on this blog… So I guess this platform will be a little bit of everything.

I only have less than 2.5 months left as a college student (CRAZY) so I figure I might as well incorporate as much college-related content as possible while I can! I wanted to do this post Q&A style. I get asked so many questions in regards to my college-life (from followers, random people I meet, professors, friends, family, classmates, etc) so I decided to put it all together in a post.

Enjoy! xo

What is your major & how did you choose it?

My major is Public Relations and my minor is Graphic Design and Advertising Art. I always knew I loved to write but never thought of making a career out of it. During my senior year of high school somehow the idea of “traveling and writing about it” because this ultimate dream of mine, and I wasn’t sure where to take it. This brought me to the decision of majoring in Journalism. I began my freshman year of college at Seton Hall University (Go Pirates!) with a major in Journalism, and I soon realized that wasn’t the perfect major for me. I wasn’t interested in broadcasting or being a news anchor, and that seemed to be what most of the journalism courses were focusing on. SO, I made a switch. At the time, my school had “Journalism + PR” as a duel major (now PR is it’s own major, which is a BIG deal for the PR program at my school!!). I decided to go the PR path because I knew I would be able to use my writing skills and I could also work in almost any industry I wanted to. I added on my minor because I wanted to be able to bring my creative talent into my studies, plus advertising is an industry I have always been interested in potentially working in.

If you could change your major, would you?

I have 0 regrets with my major and minor! It’s the perfect combination for what I want to do and what I’m interested in. HOWEVER,  if my school had offered the program, I probably would have majored in something fashion related: merchandising, textile design, fashion design, etc. I’ve also loved all of the art history classes I’ve taken, so I would definitely consider minoring in Art History if given the chance.

What are your plans for after graduation?

LOL, the dreaded question for every senior in college. As of right now, I really don’t have a plan… BUT I’ll keep all of my blog readers updated as my plan develops! 🙂

What do you WANT to do after graduation?

I would love to have a job where I can focus on writing about topics I am passionate about… so whether that be for a magazine or newspaper, I’d be excited about either! I would also love to work in the fashion industry and focus on either PR or advertising. I also have a totally random dream of working in PR or event planning for an art gallery or museum. I’ve recently come to the conclusion that as much as I love social media and digital marketing, those jobs might not be for me. I spend my own personal time branding myself and this blog, so I think if I had to do it as my job as well as for my personal blog, I would get so sick of it and become unmotivated.

I’d love to answer ANY more college-related questions you might have, so feel free to leave a comment or send me an email! 🙂 Thanks so much for reading!!

  1. Great post! Congrats on graduating (even though it is 2.5 months from now) it is a big accomplishment. Have you planned how you will be celebrating your graduation (i.e. cruise, go to Iceland, etc.)?
