Beach Days

A sunny beach day on Cape Cod. Pictured is the ocean and the sand, and a beach towel.

This summer, we’ve been spending as much time at the beach as possible. It’s been a busy few months, but last weekend we were able to go twice – success! We’re headed down to the Cape next week for a full beach vacation and I simply cannot wait. Early morning coffee on the beach, sandwiches packed for lunch, mid-day beach naps, and sunset… I’m excited to spend as much time laying in the sand and swimming in the ocean as possible.

We spent most summer days at the beach growing up, so I feel like I’m somewhat “qualified” to share beach essentials. Though, what works for me may not work for you! See below for some of my beach day essentials.

A collage of my favorite beach coverups (both light blue), beach umbrella, navy blue and white striped beach towel, sunscreen, and white beach cooler.

A Beach Quilt/Blanket

In addition to packing beach towels, a large quilt or blanket is key. This one is water resistant and practically made for beach naps! I love the classic blue stripe, but the Red Lobster print, Blue Hydrangea print, and Coral Starfish print are all favorites of mine, too.

Sunscreen + SPF

I’m a big advocate for sun protection. I’ve been using this lotion (clean ingredients) and any generic spray. An SPF Lip Balm is important, too – I love this brand. Pro tip from my mom: refrigerate your lip balm and then keep it in your cooler. It’ll feel so refreshing when you apply it at the beach!

A Beach Tote

I have one too many reusable totes from grocery stores, but I’ve been using a beige one that my sister wrapped my Christmas gift in last year. I think the one I’m referring to is available at farm + table in Kennebunkport, ME. You need something big enough to carry all of your essentials, but small enough so it’s not a hassle to carry.

Beach Umbrella

A MUST, especially if you like long beach days. Ant refuses to go to the beach without an umbrella… so it’s not really an option to go without! 😆 Of course I’d love one similar to this one day, but there’s plenty of more affordable (and sturdy) options like this one.

A Beach Read

I try to stay off of my phone as much as possible while on the beach, so it’s usually in my bag unless I’m taking photos. In order to stay entertained, I always pack a book with me… specifically a beach read. I just finished this book and loved it; it would be perfect for the beach! It’s based on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, does it get more coastal than that?

Bluetooth Speaker

We don’t go many places without this Bluetooth Speaker. It has a long battery life and it’s light-weight. Toss on a beachy playlist (country is always our go-to) and you’re set for a beach day!

Cooler

Is there anything better than sandwiches on the beach? A cooler stocked with water, lunch, and snacks is a must. For larger groups, I’ve heard nothing but great things about this hard-shell cooler (I’d get the one with wheels, as I cannot imagine how heavy it would be without!). For smaller groups, we have one similar to this (same brand!) and cannot recommend it enough! This one looks timeless, too!

Linen Coverup

Whether it’s a button-down shirt or traditional beach cover-up, make sure you have something with sleeves packed! My shoulders always get too much sun, so I’ve been making it a point to always pack something like this – on sale and under $30 right now!

Beach Hat

Protect your skin (and eyes) at all costs! My eyes are extremely light and sensitive to sun, so a baseball hat or sun hat is an essential. Whatever offers the most shade, works!

Beach Towels

An obvious essential, but I’m currently coveting this Tennis Scene beach towel and I love this classic, blue and white stripe towel. We have a few that look like it!
