Summer Habits

After a long, cold winter it feels so good to get out and about this summer. I’ve been spending just about every free moment I have outdoors. I cannot believe the 4th of July has already come and gone; this summer we’ve had some of the busiest weeks and it doesn’t seem like our schedules will slow down much. When we’re home, it’s easy to stick to our simple routine of working out and eating healthy meals, but it becomes a challenge when we’re on the road. I’m no expert, but I’ve been implementing small habits and changes this summer to live a healthier lifestyle: on the road or at home!

I’d love for you to join the conversation by sharing your own tips and practices for healthy summer habits. Share them with me in the comments below!

Summer isn’t complete without a few competitive matches of ping pong!

Outdoor Workouts

I have a membership at a local gym, but it’s just not enjoyable for me during the summer months. I would much rather run outside or do some sort of workout in the sun. So, I cancelled my gym membership (at least for the summer months) and I’ve been running just about every morning outdoors. Some days I’ll do laps around the athletic fields at the local park and others I’ll just run along the harbor. Either way, it has been such a great start to my mornings!

SPF

With my DNA results showing I’m 89% Irish, it’s no secret that I have lighter skin and freckle/burn easily. Before I go outside ever, I’ll always use some sort of SPF on visible skin. My favorite facial SPF is tinted, so most days I’ll just wear this instead of a concealer or foundation. For my arms/hands, I’ll usually use whatever spray sunscreen we have on hand, usually just a basic one we picked up from CVS or Target.

Dining Al Fresco

I touched on this in my last blog post, but I’ve been loving eating outdoors. I can’t wait until I have my own patio, porch, and/or deck, but for now I’m content with packing up my dinner and eating in a local park. You don’t have to spend money at restaurants to enjoy dinner with a view!

Less Cocktails, More Mocktails

Simply put, I’ve really only been enjoying cocktails on special occasions.

Hydrating

I’ve been drinking so much water. In the morning I have two glasses before making a cup of coffee, and then I continue to drink water throughout the day while working. When I’m craving something with dinner, I’ll reach for a seltzer water instead of anything else. Hydration is no issue for me! 🤣
