Holiday Cheer in the North End

I’m still waiting on the perfect snow day in Boston. We’re now a full week into December and I’ve yet to see a snowfall that’s stuck to the ground and lasted more than 24 hours; and I am patiently awaiting the day it happens! This past weekend we did get a rainy/ice/snow mixture, but nothing stuck to the ground. Nevertheless, it still got me in the holiday spirit and I decided to go for a walk (yes, even in the freezing rain!)

It was the prettiest surprise to see that in the Paul Revere Mall (pictured below), they had put up a Christmas tree with lights! This park is right on Hanover Street, which is basically the “heart” of the North End. It was so festive, caught me by surprise, and instantly boosted my holiday cheer. I’m not totally sure if they do this every year, but since it’s our first winter in this part of Boston, it’s been so fun to see what the community around us does for the holiday season.

All of the restaurants on Hanover Street are covered in lights, wreaths, and garland. Many are still seating outside with heaters (though most are doing indoor only now.) Although it’s a little sad that we’re unable to explore new brunch spots, bars, & museums; it’s been really nice to find holiday cheer in the little things – like this Christmas tree 🙂

We’re not planning in staying in the North End forever, but right now, we can’t think of another place we’d want to be. In just under 6 months, this “neighborhood” of Boston has become “our” little community, and we’re loving every minute of it.
