On Festively Celebrating the Season

It’s been a quiet few weeks, both here and on Instagram. Though, it’s been anything but quiet, IRL. Weekends are filled with holiday shopping or travels, and weeknights are spent cooking or baking in preparation for festivities to come. I always love this time of the year where neighborhoods, restaurants, and retailers dress their best. As of this weekend, the North End streets are lined with twinkling lights and ribbons of pine-scented garland. A few still have their wilting, dried mums on display, but I suspect they’ll be gone by next week.

I know this season usually feels like a whirlwind, so I’m doing everything to soak up the festivity of it all. I’ve added every tree lighting in Boston to my Google Calendar, just in case we feel an extra pep in our step after work on one of our few available evenings. We’ve snuck in a quick trip to New Jersey to visit with Ant’s family during Thanksgiving weekend. And just this weekend, we decorated.

As much as I love this season, I usually hold off until after Thanksgiving to decorate. My personal preference for Turkey Day decorations include rusty-toned pumpkins or gourds. However, this year we’ll be traveling a bit right around Thanksgiving so I brought out our bobbles, festive figurines, garland, and we even purchased and decorated our tree. A real tree, of course. A Frasier Fur beauty. We woke up early this morning and walked to Seaport’s ‘Snowport’ to get our tree from their stand. It’s a 1.5 mile walk… So instead of struggling to carry a a 6-7 ft. tree back home, we utilized their tree delivery service. We chose a time this afternoon and had our tree delivered to our apartment door. City perks!

As I write this post from my couch, across from my glimmering tree, I’m more than content with our decision to embrace the season earlier than usual. I fully support the claims made in this article: putting up Christmas lights do in fact change your mood for the better. Whether you’re with me and bringing out your red and green early, or you’re waiting until December, I hope you enjoy every bit of your holiday season. And cheers to more festive blog posts, coming soon! I promise. x
