A Spontaneous Summer Weekend

I am simply in awe that August is already here. It always feels like the season of sunshine is rushed, but this summer seems to be slipping away faster than usual. With a busy August ahead, I’m thankful we spent the last weekend of July on the Cape. It just felt right.

On Friday, Ant and I began looking ahead at the weekend. We had no set plans and it was going to be in the high 90°s in Boston. Our choices were to sit inside somewhere that had AC (we played every scenario in our head: we could relax in our apartment, try a new museum, go shopping or to brunch, etc..) or we’d be outside somewhere, likely sweating. We talked about going to the beach, but we weren’t very prepared. We didn’t have “beach food” to pack and the thought of returning to the city on a Saturday evening and trying to find parking in the North End would be less than ideal. I’m not sure why going to the Cape was never brought up, but it was 9:30pm on Friday when it clicked. We quickly made arrangements to get the everyone together and the next morning, we were off to the Cape for a quick, 24-hour trip.

Ant and I packed up the car on Saturday morning, drove to Kaley’s (my older sister) apartment to pick her up, and drove down to the Cape. Of course, it wasn’t a summer Cape morning without an iced Marylou’s coffee. We spent Saturday lounging around the pool, reminiscing on *some* of our competitive swimming days, and making dinner with fresh lobsters and scallops (purchased off of the boat that morning!) Both Ant and I had never actually cooked a live lobster before and it was quite the experience! I have quite the appreciation for lobstermen (and any seafood restaurant/kitchen staff?), now… It’s not easy! We finished the night with margaritas at Añejo in Hyannis.

All in all, it felt like the perfect way to say our goodbyes to July. August, I’m ready for you.
